WVSTA Fall Conference 2018 “Science Teaching in Superposition” will be held in Roanoke, WV, October 25-27, 2018 at the beautiful Stonewall Resort.

Join us for the WVSTA Fall conference for the latest in science content, teaching strategies, networking opportunities, and new this year are poster presentations on current research to enhance and expand your professional growth. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to collaborate with science education leaders and your peers.  At WVSTA you will gain experience in innovative teaching strategies for elementary classrooms, middle school classrooms, and the high school classrooms.  Come for the sessions, the vendors, and the speakers…stay for the fun and camaraderie of your peers in science.

Online registration IS OPEN and will shut down the week prior to the conference so we can produce the program, name tags, etc.  but we will have on-site registration starting at 3:30 pm on 10/25/18 at the resort.  Note: There will be NO VENDOR ON-SITE Registration.  All Vendors MUST be pre-registered.

There are 4 types of registrants (Click on the type to jump straight to the correct registration page):

  1. Regular Attendee is for currently practicing teachers, faculty and professionals.  Early Bird registration is $130 and ends Oct. 1, 2018.  After Oct. 1 the price goes up to $150 and runs till 10/21, after which all pre-registration shuts down. On-site registration is $165.
  2. Full-Time Students and Retired Teachers is just what it sounds like.  Student ID and proof of full time status is required. (This is NOT for part-time students.)  The cost is $105. Faculty may register up to 20 students at one time.  Contact the WVSTA Treasurer with billing questions wyonk@suddenlink.net.
  3. Vendor registration is $230, must be completed in advance, and includes full admission for 1 vendor, 1 table, and a place in the Vendor Exhibition hall.  There is a discount for non-profit organizations and additional tables may be added for $125. There are numerous Vendor Sponsorships available including
    -the Badge Holders $850,
    -Conference Totes $850,
    -Back Cover of the program $350,
    -Inside Cover of program $250, and
    -two Breaks at $250/each.
  4. Additional Vendor Reps are $150 and can be added only if you first register your company/organization.  This is not intended for classroom teachers unless they are only at the conference to work your booth. If your organization only selects Vendor Rep and fails to pay for the full vendor registration, you will not be included in the vendor area.


Please note, that if you submit a session it will almost certainly be accepted.  One of the few reasons a session would not be accepted is failure to register for the conference by the 10/1 session submission deadline.  Sessions may only be presented by registered Attendees, Students, Vendors, or Vendor Reps.

Pre-Conference Workshop

The NASA IV&V Educator Resource Center will provide a 4 hour, hands-on 3D design and printing workshop for all grade levels.  You will learn how to design 3D parts using TinkerCAD.com as well as AutoDesk’s Fusion 360, to send files to the MakerBot printer, and will be certified to borrow two mobile MakerBot Replicator 2 printers.  Cost is $5.


Appalachian Glass Factory

Friday, October 26, 2018 – 8:00am

The glass industry played an  important role in the development of central West Virginia.  At Appalachian Glass, a family owned and operated business, Matt, Chip and Todd Turner are three generations keeping the glass blowing tradition alive.   According to their website, over the past century, twenty different glass factories called Lewis County home. Join us for a tour of Appalachian Glass on Friday morning.

Dr. Bob Geology Field Trip

Friday, October 26, 2018 – 1:00pm

It’s a great day for a field trip with Dr. Bob Behling, former WVU geology professor. Bring sturdy shoes or boots and dress for the weather, because rain or shine, it’s always a good time with Dr. Bob! Join us Friday afternoon to learn more about the rocks all around you here in beautiful Central West Virginia.

Morning Walk/Hike with Brennon O’Sullivan

Saturday, October 27, 2018 – 8:00am

If you want to getting that blood flowing and see the natural beauty of the resort outdoors, join Stonewall’s superintendent Brennon O’Sullivan for a Saturday morning walk around the grounds. Brennon has also worked the Superintendent III of Tygart Lake State Park and has worked for the WV DNR for years.  Join Brennon for an educational hike.
